BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Mario Colombati was born in Rome in 1912. He worked for the Italian Government Printing Works from 1929 to 1970. He was responsible for quite a few definitives, such as the 1946 high value of the Democratica series and the two large-format Siracusana definitives of the 1950s.
Among his finest work is the 1954 Marco Polo set, which bears his name in tiny letters on the base of the column supporting the dragon.
